Values or Value? Climate change through a financial risk (and opportunity) lens.

Hamilton Wealth Management in conjunction with DNR Capital hosted Sarah Barker, Special Counsel at MinterEllison, on Thursday 31st May 2018, at Kooyong Lawn Tennis Club.

Sarah Barker is a Special Counsel at the Asia-Pacifics largest commercial law firm, MinterEllison, and a director of one of Australia’s largest superannuation funds, the $26-billion Emergency Services & State Super.

She has two decades experience as a corporate lawyer, and is regarded as one of the world’s foremost experts on climate change and investment governance.

Sarah’s expertise on climate-related financial risks has been called upon by international institutions from the Bank of England to the OECD, European Commission and United Nations PRI. She sits on the Technical Working Group of the London-based Climate Disclosure Standards Board, teaches as part of the international faculty of Cambridge University’s Institute for Sustainability Leadership, and is the Australian legal advisor to the University of Oxford in the Commonwealth Climate & Law Initiative (a research and outreach project on directors’ duties in relation to climate change in Australia, the UK, Canada and South Africa, launched by the Prince of Wales at CHOGM in late 2015).

Closer to home, she advises a number of Australia’s largest insurers, superannuation funds, fund managers and banks, and works
closely with financial services stakeholders from the Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand and the Australian Prudential Regulation Authority.

Sarah brings an overtly practical, governance-focused perspective to her advice from her own experience as a director and advisory board member. In addition to her role on the board of Emergency Services & State Super, she is currently a nonexecutive director of the Responsible Investment Association Australasia, and has been actively involved as an examiner, lecturer and course materials author for the Australian Institute of Company Directors for more than a decade.

She has recently been featured on the ABC’s FourCorners program, and in AFR Boss Magazine.
